Scorched Beetle

Layer 1 · Habitat: Shrine Road

A beetle with limbs of stone and a body of glass glowing red-hot, trailing embers when it flies

Description

A beetle the size of a fist, with legs of grey stone and a body of something like glass that glows bright red, like iron in a forge. It gives off real heat, and when it flies it leaves a trail of embers drifting in the air. They roost in the shrines’ old fire basins. A cluster of a few dozen heaped together looks exactly like a roaring bonfire, and travelers have walked up to warm their hands.
