Cliff Gleaner

Layer 1 · Habitat: Descent Wall

A flyer so thin it is almost flat; at rest it hangs from the cliff edge like old cloth drying in the wind

Description

A flyer so thin it is almost flat, grey and leathery, with a hooked, beakless mouth. At rest a flock hangs from the cliff edges in rows, swaying in the wind like old cloth drying, and climbers pass right beneath them. They attack anything clinging to the wall, trying to knock it loose and feed on what falls.

Traits

False Appearance. While hanging motionless from a ledge, the gleaner is indistinguishable from a torn piece of cloth.

Flyby. The gleaner doesn't provoke Opportunity Attacks when it flies out of an enemy's reach.

Actions

Hook Mouth. Melee Attack Roll: +5, reach 5 ft. Hit: 6 (1d6 + 3) Piercing damage. If the target is climbing, standing on a ledge, or hanging from a rope, it must succeed on a DC 11 Strength saving throw or lose its hold: a climber falls, and a creature on a ledge is pushed 5 feet.

Shroud. The gleaner wraps itself around the head of a creature within 5 feet. Dexterity Saving Throw: DC 13. Failure: The target has the Blinded condition until the end of its next turn, and the gleaner moves into its space and clings to it. The gleaner lets go at the start of its next turn.
