Sleeper's Shroud

Layer 1 · Habitat: Hanging Terraces

A thick carpet of green-gold moss, soft and warm to the touch

Description

A thick carpet of green-gold moss, soft and warm to the touch, growing in the most sheltered corners of the terraces. It looks like the best bed a tired delver has seen in days, and it is: its warmth lulls anyone who lies on it into a deep sleep. Then it slowly closes over them and feeds.

Traits

False Appearance. While motionless, the shroud is indistinguishable from an ordinary bed of moss.

Lulling Warmth. A creature that starts a rest on the shroud must succeed on a DC 12 Wisdom saving throw or fall asleep, having the Unconscious condition until the rest ends. It wakes if it takes damage or another creature takes an action to shake it awake.

Actions

Smother. The shroud closes over one creature in its space. Constitution Saving Throw: DC 12; a creature with the Unconscious condition automatically fails. Failure: 7 (2d6) Necrotic damage, and the target has the Restrained condition (escape DC 11). While restrained, the target takes 7 (2d6) Necrotic damage at the start of each of the shroud's turns. Success: Half damage only.
