Flying Eel

Layer 1 · Habitat: Open air

A pale, milky eel as long as a rowboat, swimming through the air in circles around the light rod

Description

A pale, milky eel as long as a rowboat, swimming through the air as if it were water, endlessly circling the light rod. When it strikes a ledge, it bites and coils around its prey, then pulls it off into the open air. Its bite leaves a cold numbness that creeps through the limbs, and victims who survive feel stiff for days.

Actions

Multiattack. The eel makes one Bite attack and one Constrict attack.

Bite. Melee Attack Roll: +5, reach 5 ft. Hit: 12 (2d8 + 3) Piercing damage. The target must succeed on a DC 13 Constitution saving throw or its Speed is reduced by 10 feet until it finishes a Long Rest. This reduction stacks; if the target's Speed reaches 0, it has the Restrained condition until it finishes a Long Rest or is cured by a Lesser Restoration spell.

Constrict. Melee Attack Roll: +5, reach 10 ft. Hit: 10 (2d6 + 3) Bludgeoning damage, and the target has the Grappled condition (escape DC 13).

Bonus Actions

Drag Off. The eel flies up to half its Fly Speed with the creature it is grappling. It can release the creature at any point; over open air, the creature falls to the nearest ledge below.
